Even if it's opt-in some people will mark it as spam if they don't want it any more (and are too lazy to unsubscribe) or forgot they asked for it.Ĭontacting SORBS et al directly is usually a waste of time. What is the nature of the email that your users send? Is it anything that could be interpreted by recipients as unsolicited?. Is your public IP dynamically allocated by your ISP? Many spam filters "dislike" mail from dynamically allocated IPs on the basis that such ranges are allocated for domestic use shouldn't be sending out emails on their own.

I've had to deal with the fallout from an infected PC sending >10,000 emails in a couple of hours.

+1 for Huw & Henrik - block port 25 outbound from everything except your mailserver at your firewall.
GFI MAILESSENTIALS 2014 R2 WINDOWS 7
user PCs are Windows 7 using Outlook 2007 to connect to Exchange. What can I do to make sure spam isn't being sent out of my public IP? Are there specific scans I can do on the user PCs to make sure one of them isn't generating spam? I'm pretty sure it isn't the server which is the issue, but its also worth checking just in case.but I don't know what to check exactly since I already know there aren't open relays and the firewall is working correctly. SORBS was very unhelpful, and GFI MailEssentials only scans inbound mails, so its pretty much irrelevant in this regard. This obviously ends up causing problems with the users and their clients, and de-listing is only straightforward the first few times, after which it becomes a big PITA. In fact, we've just had a network penetration test done a few weeks ago and no problems were found, even with our email server.īut for some reason, our public IP which is used for email traffic is getting blacklisted on public spam databases every few months. The server is secure and has been shown to have no open relays. The server is sitting behind a Cisco ASA firewall. For anti-spam/malware I use GFI MailEssentials 2014. I have an Exchange Server 2013 SP1 running on a Windows Server 2012 R2 VM.
